Night Marchers by Rebecca Gober and Courtney Nuckels

From Goodreads: An all new Young Adult paranormal series that will have you averting your eyes for years to come!

“NEVER, EVER lock eyes with a Night Marcher!” Everyone in Hawaii has heard this warning, except for seventeen-year-old Emma Townsend that is. For most Hawaiians know that looking into the eyes of Night Marcher can strike a curse that will end in death or eternal servitude.

Even though her father, who is a paranormal investigator, solely raised Emma, she has little experience in the realm of the supernatural. When she is forced to move with her father to Hawaii, only months before her graduation, Emma finds that her world as she knows it, is shaken when she starts seeing the unexplainable: fire balls in the distance, beating drums in the middle of nowhere and strangers who vanish into thin air. Then one day when she has a run in with a procession of Night Marchers, ancient Hawaiian spirits wandering from their burial grounds to their locations of battles past, Emma has no choice but to believe that the unbelievable does exist.

Now Emma must go on the run with the help of a mysterious stranger, as they seek out how to free Emma from the curse of a Night Marcher, who will stop at nothing to get her soul.

The Rock Star's Daughter (Treadwell Academy #1) by Caitlyn Duffy

From Goodreads: At the age of 15, Taylor Beauforte has only met her father twice in person. After all, he is the lead singer of a world-famous rock band, constantly on the cover of music magazines and giving interviews on MTV. He pays for Taylor to attend the Treadwell Academy, a prestigious boarding school in Massachusetts, and provides her mother with monthly checks to cover her basic needs, but has never made much of an effort to play an active part in Taylor’s life. Taylor's mom Dawn is the only family she has ever really known, and because of Dawn's hard-partying Hollywood lifestyle, studious Taylor is happiest on the other side of the country in Massachusetts with her nose buried in a book.
When Taylor 's mom unexpectedly dies the summer before Taylor starts her junior year, she receives a crash course in fame. She has no choice but to join her father and his new family on their summer concert tour before she has even had a chance to mourn the loss of her mother. Life as the daughter of a rock star seems like it would be enviable, but Taylor can't figure her dad out. He seems like a supportive authority figure (even if he's kind of a fashion tragedy) , but she is collecting a growing pile of evidence that he's a liar and a cheat. Her stepmother, Jill, can’t seem to decide if she wants to treat Taylor like a girlfriend or a nuisance. Having had no time to grieve and say goodbye to her childhood before being thrust into the limelight, Taylor is suddenly finding herself in situations she could have never imagined before this summer.
With no one else to turn to, Taylor falls head over heels in love with Jake, the teenage son of one of the band's touring groupies. Taylor has growing concerns about Jake's background and the suspicious relationship between his mom and her own father, but is desperate for something real in her life onto which she can build a future. When Jake offers Taylor an opportunity to join him on a whirlwind adventure and leave her problems with her father far behind, Taylor has to decide – should she carve out her own way in the world, or try to repair the relationship she has with her only living parent?
Over the course of the summer with the band, Taylor learns the depths of her own strength, the difficulty of overcoming loss, and that the definition of family means much more than shared bloodlines

This one sounds great and is definitely my kind of book. Get your free copy here

The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson

From Goodreads: Seventeen-year-old Lennie Walker, bookworm and band geek, plays second clarinet and spends her time tucked safely and happily in the shadow of her fiery older sister, Bailey. But when Bailey dies abruptly, Lennie is catapulted to center stage of her own life - and, despite her nonexistent history with boys, suddenly finds herself struggling to balance two. Toby was Bailey's boyfriend; his grief mirrors Lennie's own. Joe is the new boy in town, a transplant from Paris whose nearly magical grin is matched only by his musical talent. For Lennie, they're the sun and the moon; one boy takes her out of her sorrow, the other comforts her in it. But just like their celestial counterparts, they can't collide without the whole wide world exploding.

This remarkable debut is perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen, Deb Caletti, and Francesca Lia Block. Just as much a celebration of love as it is a portrait of loss, Lennie's struggle to sort her own melody out of the noise around her is always honest, often hilarious, and ultimately unforgettable.

This is one of the titles in the Kindle spring sale, it is currently available for £1.49. Get your copy here

My Soul to Take, Soul Screamers #1 by Rachel Vincent

From Goodreads: She doesn't see dead people. She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.
Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who'll be next.

I picked this up earlier this week and am already a quarter through the book, highly recommend this series, it is currently available for £2.99. Get your copy here

Beautiful Demons, Peachville High Demons #1 by Sarra Cannon

From Goodreads: Harper Madison isn't like other girls. She has extraordinary powers, but her inability to control them has gotten her kicked from so many foster homes she's lost count. Shadowford Home is her last chance, and she hopes Peachville High will be the fresh start she needs. But when evidence ties her to the gruesome murder of a Demons cheerleader, Harper discovers this small town has a big secret.

Cover Love - The Madness Underneath by Maureen Johnson (Shades of London #2)

This is another cover reveal that i missed in the last few weeks, the UK cover for the Madness Underneath the second book in the Shades of London series by Maureen Johnson.

Maureen released this a few weeks ago on her tumblr account, looks like this one isn't going to be published until January 2013 but that gives you plenty of time to read or reread the brilliant first Shades of London book The Name of the Star

Cover Love - Adorkable by Sarra Manning

A while ago i did a post of some of my highly anticipated books of 2012 and on that list was Adorkable by Sarra Manning, I've been away from my computer for a few days and have just noticed that Sarra released the cover for her new book earlier this month and here it is:

Adorakable by Sarra Manning

Expected publication: May 24th 2012 by Atom

From Goodreads: Jeane Smith is seventeen and has turned her self-styled dorkiness into an art form, a lifestyle choice and a profitable website and consultancy business. She writes a style column for a Japanese teen magazine and came number seven in The Guardian's 30 People Under 30 Who Are Changing The World. And yet, in spite of the accolades, hundreds of Internet friendships and a cool boyfriend, she feels inexplicably lonely, a situation made infinitely worse when Michael Lee, the most mass-market, popular and predictably all-rounded boy at school tells Jeane of his suspicion that Jeane's boyfriend is secretly seeing his girlfriend. Michael and Jeane have NOTHING in common - she is cool and individual; he is the golden boy in an Abercrombie & Fitch T-shirt. So why can't she stop talking to him?

You can preorder Adorakable from Amazon

I can't wait to get my hands on this one!

Hollow Pike by James Dawson

From Good Reads: Something wicked this way comes... She thought she'd be safe in the country, but you can't escape your own nightmares, and Lis London dreams repeatedly that someone is trying to kill her. Lis thinks she's being paranoid - after all who would want to murder her? She doesn't believe in the local legends of witchcraft. She doesn't believe that anything bad will really happen to her. You never do, do you? Not until you're alone in the woods, after dark - and a twig snaps... Hollow Pike - where witchcraft never sleeps.

Hollow Pike was my book groups choice for March, I have not read many books about witchcraft (except for the fantastic Salem Falls by Jodi Picoult) and I don't think I would of chosen this to read, but very glad that I did.

First things first, what a gorgeous cover!! Purple is my favourite colour so I am a little biased but I absolutely love everything about this cover.

The story is about Lis a teenager who moves from Wales to live with her sister in Hollow Pike, before she moves she has repeat nightmares about being stuck in the woods, as she settles in to Hollow Pike you can tell that Lis had a horrible time at her last school and was badly bullied (the author has worked as a teacher and worked a lot with bullied children) but she slowly starts to adjust to her new school and friends, initially she falls in with the popular crowd with the queen bee Laura but after a misunderstanding she becomes close friends with the school outcasts Kitty, Deliah and Jack and between them they scheme to teach her a lesson, after a practical joke goes wrong and Laura ends up dead, they need to solve the murder and quickly because they were in the woods the night that Laura died.

I found the writing to be superb and enjoyed the characters of the book, the only thing I noticed is that some characters seemed to flit in and out of the story with very little explanation, I also found the ending to be a little flat, after such a great book I just don't think the ending lived up to the rest of the story.

I would highly recommend Hollow Pike and am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Cover Reveal: My Super Sweet 16th Century

I'm so pleased to be a part of the cover reveal for Rachel Harris novel My Super Sweet 16th Century, released September 2012 from Entangled publishing.

And here it is:

My Super Sweet 16th Century by Rachel Harris
Expected publication: 11th September 2012
Paperback

On the precipice of her sixteenth birthday, the last thing lone wolf Cat Crawford wants is an extravagant gala thrown by her bubbly stepmother and well-meaning father. So even though Cat knows the family’s trip to Florence, Italy, is a peace offering, she embraces the magical city and all it offers. But when her curiosity leads her to an unusual gypsy tent, she exits . . . right into Renaissance Firenze

Thrust into the sixteenth century armed with only a backpack full of contraband future items, Cat joins up with her ancestors, the sweet Alessandra and protective Cipriano, and soon falls for the gorgeous aspiring artist Lorenzo. But when the much-older Niccolo starts sniffing around, Cat realizes that an unwanted birthday party is nothing compared to an unwanted suitor full of creeptastic amore

Can she find her way back to modern times before her Italian adventure turns into an Italian forever?

You can pre order your copy from Amazon

So what do you think of the cover? I personally love it and can't wait to get my hands on this when it is released!

And if that wasn't enough here is a little teaser from the book:

I hear their muffled whispers and understand every Italian word. Every witty comment made at my expense.
It’s like my brain is automatically translating.
I bunch the soft fabric of the dress in my hand and then reach up to feel the ribbon in my hair. I lightly skim my fingers over my chin and feel my lack of zit. I take in the costumes of the crowd, the stench of the animals, and the Italian I can now speak and understand. And suddenly it hits me.
Reyna must have pulled some kind of gypsy mojo.
Maybe this is one of those nifty “change your life” magic scenarios like in the movies. I mean, mostly I’m still expecting to blink and be right back in the midst of overpriced, gaudy tourism, but for now, the gypsy-time-warp explanation is infinitely better than thinking I’ve lost my mind. As I decide to go with that option, I feel my frantic tension melt away.
The growing crowd seems to notice my change in demeanor and begins shooting one another amused looks, but I don’t care anymore. A smile stretches across my face. Evidently, I was wrong earlier; Reyna is a psychic mind reader, because if this is her special brand of bibbity-bobbity-boo, then she made my exact daydream from earlier in the courtyard come to life.
The long red gown, the braided hair, the Italian merchant’s daughter, the time period. I am in Renaissance Florence.
I stare dumbly at the ground, the words and reality sinking in.
I’m in Renaissance Florence!

A big thank you to Rachel and Entangled Publishing for letting me take part in the cover reveal.

Anticipated books of 2012

Just  a few of the books I can't wait for this year!

Pretty Amy by Lisa Burnstein
Good Reads: Amy is fine living in the shadows of beautiful Lila and uber-cool Cassie, because at least she’s somewhat beautiful and uber-cool by association. But when their dates stand them up for prom, and the girls take matters into their own hands—earning them a night in jail outfitted in satin, stilettos, and Spanx—Amy discovers even a prom spent in handcuffs might be better than the humiliating “rehabilitation techniques” now filling up her summer. Worse, with Lila and Cassie parentally banned, Amy feels like she has nothing—like she is nothing.

Navigating unlikely alliances with her new coworker, two very different boys, and possibly even her parents, Amy struggles to decide if it’s worth being a best friend when it makes you a public enemy. Bringing readers along on an often hilarious and heartwarming journey, Amy finds that maybe getting a life only happens once you think your life is over.

Expected publication date - 15th May 2012, Entangled Publishing

The Invitation by Diane Hoh

The Invitation

From Good Reads:Five not-so-popular teens are invited to an annual party given by snooty Cass. Ushered into the mansion, they are soon part of a human scavenger hunt in which they are tied, bound, and hidden. Further victimization includes being heated in a sauna, cooled in a freezer, and nearly asphyxiated by a car's running motor.

Sarah is your typical straight A student, all she does is study and practise her violin, so why has she and her friends been invited  to the most popular girl in school annual party?
I read this book in a few hours and found it to be an easy read, the characters were well written and kept my interest and the book did have some twists and turns that i didn't see coming, It reminded me of the old Goosebumps books by R.L.Stine.

When I received this i didn't realise it was an old point horror book that has been released in e-book format, I received an unproofed E-ARC and found that their were a lot of spelling mistakes and words missing from this edition so it was a bit confusing in places.

I found that this book didn't really have much of an ending, It felt like the story was just getting somewhere and then the book just ended, personally I would of liked to known what happened after the party.

I would recommend this book to any young teens who like mystery and suspense novels.

2 out of 5 stars

The Invitation will be published on 27th March, a big thank you to both the publisher and Net Galley for allowing me to review this early copy.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer
Mara Dyer #1

Good Reads: Seventeen-year-old Mara cannot remember the accident that took the lives of three of her friends but, after moving from Rhode Island to Florida, finding love with Noah, and more deaths, she realizes uncovering something buried in her memory might save her family and her future.

I instantly fell in love with this book when i saw the cover, I mean what a cover, it is gorgeous! The description as well, a girl waking up in hospital with no idea why she is there and then starts having hallucinations what is not to love?

I quickly tore through the twists and turns this book threw at you in the first half desperately trying to work out what was going on, and then around the 300 page mark something... odd happened, and I'm still not sure how i feel about it, it was like the author was told to write a completely different book and stick it in the middle, I'm still a bit confused by it! However your still going to be guessing right to the last page as there is a big twist thrown in there for good measure.. how am i going to wait until the end of the year for the next installment. I NEED answers now!

Overall i really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the second book, I did find the writing to be a little rushed and choppy around the last 100 pages, leaving me a little confused... but maybe that was on purpose to aid in the whole confused / paranoid feel throughout the book, Also we all know how hot Noah is, please no more fawning over his looks Mara?

4/5

Nick and Norah’s infinite playlist by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

From Good Reads: It all starts when Nick asks Norah to be his girlfriend for five minutes. He only needs five minutes to avoid his ex-girlfriend, who's just walked in to his band's show. With a new guy. And then, with one kiss, Nick and Norah are off on an adventure set against the backdrop of New York City;and smack in the middle of all the joy, anxiety, confusion, and excitement of a first date.
This he said/she said romance told by YA stars Rachel Cohn and David Levithan is a sexy, funny roller coaster of a story about one date over one very long night, with two teenagers, both recovering from broken hearts, who are just trying to figure out who they want to be;and where the next great band is playing. Told in alternating chapters, teeming with music references, humor, angst, and endearing side characters, this is a love story you'll wish were your very own. Working together for the first time, Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have combined forces to create a book that is sure to grab readers of all ages and never let them go

I was on holiday in Montreal when the DVD of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist was released, I picked it up straight away as it looked like a nice teen flick, we watched it whilst on holiday and I loved the film so decided to pick up the book last year.

Personally I think there are many things wrong with the book, i found the chapters to not flow very well and i struggled to get into the story because of this, the writing was quite vulgar - I'm not bothered by language in books at all, but i do believe it has a time and place and thought that in the book swear words were inserted for no real reason.
The book was very fast paced which i assume was to keep up with the one night theme but i felt that the story just didn't live up to the film I afraid  - This is the first time i have ever preferred the film to the book!

One good thing is it does have a fantastic quote very early in the book - While she was busy ripping me into pieces, that was the one fragment I begged to keep.

Bright Girls by Clare Chambers

From Goodreads: Fifteen-year-old Robyn (the “sensible”) one and her older sister Rachel (anything but!) arrive in Brighton to spend the summer with their estranged Aunt Jackie, who runs a ballgown hire business from her ramshackle multi-storey home. They have been forced to leave their home in Oxford, where they live with their father, because of threats to their safety, the nature of which only gradually becomes apparent.A perfect summer read and a brilliant study of sisterly devotion and rivalry, coupled with a frisson of mystery and a wonderful dollop of humour.

Bright Girls is about two sisters Rachel who is popular and pretty and Robyn who is shy and overlooked, the book is set in Brighton which is one of my favourite UK cities. Rachel and Robyn have been sent to Brighton to stay with their Aunt Jackie due to attacks on the family home in Oxford. Their father works for a pharmaceutical company and believes the odd packages are being sent by animal right activists who are angry at the company he works for.
The whole book has a thriller feel and I really didn't see the ending coming, even though I found the rest of the book to be a little predictable.
I loved Adam and his nan as characters, she definitely made the story for me.

Overall i thought Bright Girls was predictable but a great story and I would recommend to 12 years and up.
